Acrylic (PMMA) resin is a non-toxic and environmentally friendly material, which can be used to produce tableware, sanitary ware, etc. It has good chemical stability and weather resistance.
It can be produced in large quantities, the process is simple, and the cost is low. Therefore, its application is becoming more and more extensive. It is widely used in instrumentation parts, automobile lights, optical lenses, and transparent pipes.
Acrylic is currently widely used
1. Lamps, lighting equipment, such as various household lamps, fluorescent lampshades, car tail lights, signal lights, road signs.
2. Optical glass, such as manufacturing various lenses, mirrors, prisms, TV screens, Fresnel lenses, and camera translucent lenses.
3. Prepare dials, covers and dials of various instruments and meters.
4. Prepare optical fiber.
5. Commercial advertising display windows, billboards.
6. Aircraft cockpit glass, bulletproof glass for aircraft and automobiles (with interlayer material required).
7. Various medical, military and architectural glass.
Processing technology of acrylic sheet
1. Casting
Casting is used to form plexiglass plates, bars and other profiles, that is, the profiles are formed by bulk polymerization. The products after casting need to be post-processed. The post-processing conditions are heat preservation at 60°C for 2h and heat preservation at 120°C for 2h
2. Injection molding
Injection molding uses pellets made by suspension polymerization and molding on a common plunger or screw injection molding machine. Table 1 shows the typical process conditions of polymethyl methacrylate injection molding.
